TRIP TO VENICE AND THE 60TH BIENNALE ARTE 2024

4-day travel program between April 20 and November 24

Artchitectours offers a complete 4-day program to enjoy the city and architecture of Venice and the 2024 Art Biennale. The visit to the Biennale is combined with various tours of architecture and cultural activities. The tours will show some of the most interesting examples of modern and contemporary architecture in the city.

The 60th Venice Biennale Arte will be held from Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, November 24, 2024 (preview on April 17, 18 and 19), curated by Adriano Pedroso , current artistic director of the MASP of Sao Paulo. The title of the Biennale is Stranieri Ovunque , Foreigners everywhere , title inspired by a recognized series of works by the artistic collective Clairefontaine (dating back to 2004), as well as the name of a social movement against racism and xenophobia that emerged in Turin in the early 2000s. In the words of the curator of the Biennale : ” The phrase Foreigners everywhere has – at least – a double meaning. Firstly, that wherever you go and wherever you are you will always find foreigners: they/we are everywhere. Secondly, that no matter where you are, always, truly and deep down, you are a foreigner (…) The 2024 Art Biennale will focus on artists who are foreigners, immigrants, expatriates, diasporics, emigrants, exiles and refugees, especially those who have moved between the South and the North .”

TRAVEL PROGRAM 

DAY 1: INTRODUCTION TO VENICE AND SAN MARCO

Arrival in Venice by your own means. If required, we can book your flight and/or organize the optional transfer by private car or minibus to the hotel (under request). Check -in at the hotel

15:00 Meeting with the guide-architect at the hotel reception. 4 hour tour to introduce the architecture and unique urban form of Venice, through a walk with an expert guide in the history, art and architecture of the city. You will see among others: Piazza San Marco, Negozio Olivetti (Carlo Scarpa ), Basilica of San Marco (entrance included), Doge’s Palace. Walk through the Giardini Gardens and visit the Fondaco die Tedeschi , a multifunctional building by OMA , visiting the terrace with splendid views of the city.
19:00 End of the Tour.
20:00 Optional welcome dinner in a traditional Venetian restaurant (not included).
Free return and Overnight stay at the hotel in Venice.

DAY 2: BIENNALE GIARDINI, SCARPA AND DORSODURO

9:00 After breakfast at the hotel (included), meeting with the architect-guide at the hotel reception.
10:00 a.m. Visit of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia , by Carlo Scarpa (entrance included).
11:30 a.m. Arrival at the Giardini , to visit the Venice Art Biennale 2024 (entrance included). An official guide of the Biennale will accompany the group and tour the main pavilions to explain the most relevant works. Free time to explore independently the Giardini exhibitions.
13:00 End of the  tour and free time for lunch (not included).

15:00 Transfer by Vaporetto to Palazzo Grassi.
16:00 Architectural tour of the San Marco and Dorsoduro neighborhoods seeing some of the following buildings and places (interior or exterior panoramic visits): Palazzo and teatrino Grassi (renovation and extension by Tadao Ando), Accademia Bridge, Galleria dell’Academia , Peggy Guggenheim Collection (entrance included) and Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute (entrance included), with extraordinary works by Titian and Tintoretto among others.
19:00 End of the tour.
Free time to walk around the city and have dinner (not included). Overnight stay at the hotel in Venice.

DAY 3: BIENNALE ARSENALE, RIALTO, SAN POLO AND SANTA CROCE

Breakfast at the hotel (included).

Free morning to visit the Biennale of Art, Arsenale area (entrance included for 2 days). In the Arsenale area, it will be possible to visit the interior of the Torre di Puorta Nuova dell’Arsenale, by Map Studio. Free time to explore the Biennale and have lunch in the area (not included).

15:00 Meeting with the architect guide in front of the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi Palace, next to the Rialto Bridge. Architectural tour of San Polo and Santa Croce districts: you will see among other monuments the Rialto Bridge, Rialto Market, Palazzo Ca Pesaro, Campo San Polo, San Polo Church, Basilica of Santa Maria dei Frari, Scuola grande di San Rocco, access to the IUAV (Carlo Scarpa). 19:00 End of tour

Overnight stay at the hotel in Venice.

DAY 4: GIUDECCA AND RETURN TRIP TO THE DESTINATION

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

9:00 a.m., meeting with the guide -architect at the hotel reception and Architectural Tour on the islands of Giudecca, visiting the two masterpieces of the architect Andrea Palladio in the city, the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore and the church of the Santíssimo Redentore. To begin, we will travel by vaporetto to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, where, apart from the Basilica, we will visit some interesting examples of religious buildings called the Vatican Chapels , designed by 10 architecture studios such as MAP, Norman Foster, Eduardo Souto de Moura or Smiljan Radic on the occasion of the 16th Architecture Biennale (2018). After another vaporetto transfer, the Redentore church will be visited. After a walk, we will discover 5 interesting residential buildings located in the so-called ex- Junghans area , by the architect Cino Zucchi. Finally, we will enter the Fortuny Showroom and Factory , the former factory of the versatile and inventive artist Mariano Fortuny.

1:00 p.m. End of the tour next to the Stucky Mill, which has been remodeled as a luxury hotel.
Free time for lunch. Optional transfer by private car or minibus back to the airport (under request).
Flight or train back home (not included). End of trip

The proposed accomodation is an elegant 4* Boutique Hotel in an excellent location in the San Marco neighborhood, a few minutes from Piazza San Marco. The rooms and suites occupy a 14th century building, and are decorated in a modern and comfortable style , all featuring a private bathroom, air conditioning, LCD satellite TV, minibar and free WiFi connection . In the mornings an excellent breakfast is served. The hotel has a pleasant interior garden with views to a canal, a haven of peace in the city. If there is no availability on the required dates, an alternative hotel will be reserved according to the client’s preferences and budget.
